Researchers at Montana Tech and the University of Montana are conducting a study to better understand the ground water connection between Georgetown Lake and the surrounding landscape. These results will help discern the role groundwater plays in bringing nutrients into the lake. As part of this effort the researchers will be sampling wells around the lake during summer 2011. The water samples will be analyzed for a variety of substances that are present in well water [i.e. nutrients, radon, and major ions (for example sodium - like in table salt)] to examine the flow of groundwater and nutrients to the lake. The researchers are asking for volunteers who are willing to provide access to well water. These data will be used for research purposes only, and all the results from your well testing will be available to you if you are interested.
The testing protocol is straight forward – the researchers just need to fill up a few water bottles ideally from a garden hose spigot that is free from water treatment such as water softeners, filters, and other water purification systems.
If you are interested in participating in this study, please answer the following questionnaire and return to it to:

1. What is your name, address, and phone number?
2. What is the depth of your well (in feet)?
3. Where on your property is the well located? Draw a map on back if needed.
3. Does your water go through any treatment (e.g. water softener, filter, or purifier)?
4. If you have any water treatment, does your hose water line separate before or after the water treatment?
5. If you have an existing well driller’s log for your well, are you willing to share that information to help determine the geology?
6. Would you like to have a copy of your water data after the samples are processed?
